Efficient Dynamic Auctions

چکیده

We consider the truthful implementation of the socially efficient allocation in a dynamic private value environment in which agents receive private information over time. We show that a suitable generalization of the Vickrey-ClarkGroves mechanism, based on the marginal contribution of each agent, leads to truth-telling in every period. A leading example of a dynamic allocation model is the sequential auction of a single good in which the current winner of the object receives additional information about her valuation. We show that a modified sequential second price auction in which only the current winner makes a positive payment leads to truth-telling. In general allocation problems, the marginal contribution mechanism continues to induce truth-telling in every period but may now include positive transfers for many agents. JEL Classification: C72, C73, D43, D83.

Multi-Unit Auctions

We survey experimental research on multi-unit auctions with an emphasis on topics that may be of a unifying interest to experimental, as well as theoretical and empirical economists. Topics include static and dynamic multi-unit auctions; combinatorial auctions and efficient auction design; simultaneous and sequential auctions; bidder asymmetry and endogenous entry, and collusion in auctions. We...

Dynamic Auctions: a Survey

We survey the recent literature on designing auctions and mechanisms for dynamic settings. Two settings are considered: those with a dynamic population of agents whose private information remains fixed throughout time; and those with a fixed population of agents whose private information changes across time. Within each of these settings, we discuss both efficient (welfare-maximizing) and optim...

Dynamic Auction: A Tractable Auction Procedure

Dynamic auctions are trading mechanisms for discovering market-clearing prices and efficient allocations based on price adjustment processes. This paper studies the computational issues of dynamic auctions for selling multiple indivisible items. Although the decision problem of efficient allocations in a dynamic auction in general is intractable, it can be solved in polynomial time if the econo...

On Optimal Bidding in Concurrent Auctions

Online auctions have become a popular and effective tool for Internet-based E-markets. We investigate problems and models of optimal adaptive automated bidding in an environment of concurrent online auctions, where multiple auctions for identical items are running simultaneously. We develop new models for a firm where its item valuation derives from the sale of the acquired items via their dema...

Achieving Simultaneous Spectrum Utilization and Revenue Improvements in Practical Wireless Spectrum Auctions

Spectrum is a valuable, scarce and finite natural resource that is needed for many different applications, so efficient use of the scarce radio spectrum is important for accommodating the rapid growth of wireless communications. Spectrum auctions are one of the best-known market-based solutions to improve the efficiency of spectrum use. However, Spectrum auctions are fundamentally differen...

DYNAMIC AUCTIONS: A SURVEY By

We survey the recent literature on designing auctions and mechanisms for dynamic settings. Within each of these settings, we discuss both efficient (welfare-m...
